Drumming is back at Robert Moses Field 5. What a perfect night of clear skies, a gorgeous sunset, and a Full Moon. The trifecta!!!
If you've never been to a drum circle, you must experience it at least once. I'm pretty sure you'll come again and again because there's nothing quite like it. The pounding rhythm of the drum is intoxicating. More than 100 people, of all ages, gathered on the sand this Tuesday evening under a popsicle-colored sky. Some had a jembe while others had hand drums. Several women wore belly dancing scarves with coins attached that could be heard jingling as they swayed their hips to the music. Off in the distance, there was a group of people doing yoga. There were even surfer dudes, too. Magic happens on the beach, especially when there are drums involved.
Summer is almost here, and there's nothing quite like dancing and drumming on the beach. It brings us back to our roots of rhythm and penetrates our soul. It's primal. Man has been beating on drums from as far back as history records. Books will tell you around 6000 BC. Among numerous other artifacts found through the years, hollowed out logs were excavated that were believed to be communication devices in primitive times. I think it's fair to say that drumming is here to stay.
Hosted by photographer and brand expert, Carolina Luna, the drum circle is a ritual that will be held throughout the summer on the Full Moon. Check out her website at www.carolinalunaphotography.com and, hopefully, I'll see you down on the beach with your drum in hand and your toes in the sand.

At 60 and beyond, drumming can be a great form of exercise as it uses the entire body. It's fun, too.
