Ecco L'Estate! - Beauty Is Everywhere We Look

SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK - BEAUTY IS EVERYWHERE WE LOOK

I think it's fair to say that we all love beautiful things. Whether it's in the natural world or in a painting, an object, or in ourselves. Beauty is everywhere we look.

When we're young, we're are consumed with our appearance, especially our hair. We buy expensive products to tame the frizz, we dye it to make it more luminous, we cut it in various hairstyles, and we follow the trends set by designers and famous people. We all want to look and feel beautiful. As my mother used to say, "There's beauty at every age."

As we age, our perception and appreciation for beauty can evolve. When we're young, we may associate beauty with our youthful appearance. As we age, we may find beauty in different aspects such as wisdom, experience, and inner strength. We understand that beauty lies within, too. This is emotional intelligence. By the time we reach 60 and beyond, we've been through a thing or two. I think aging gracefully means embracing our natural beauty at every stage of life, inside and out. You're not getting older, you're getting better.

Here's a closer look:

Shifting Perceptions of Beauty:

  • Younger Individuals: Often associate beauty with aspirational ideals and youthful features, with a greater desire to emulate beauty standards presented in media.
  • Older individuals: May be more comfortable in their own skin and less concerned with conforming to specific beauty standards. They might find beauty in the wisdom etched on their faces, the stories their wrinkles tell, or the strength they've gained from life experiences.
  • Industry Influence: The beauty industry, in particular, has historically focused on youth, but there's a growing movement to embrace and celebrate the beauty of aging according to NUR Skincare.

Finding Beauty in the Aging Process:

  • Wisdom and Experience: The passage of time can bring depth and understanding, which some find beautiful and captivating.
  • Self-Acceptance: Embracing natural changes, like wrinkles and gray hair, can foster self-acceptance and confidence, which are often seen as attractive qualities according to Cole Cosmetics.
  • Inner Beauty: Focusing on kindness, compassion, and inner strength can contribute to a sense of overall beauty and well-being.
  • Resilience: Facing life's challenges and finding strength in adversity can be seen as a form of beauty.

The Importance of Attitude:

  • Positive Self-Talk: How we talk to ourselves about aging can significantly impact our perception of beauty. Negative self-talk can dim our light, while positive self-talk can enhance our inner and outer radiance. Learn to quiet that negative voice in your head.
  • Acceptance and Appreciation: Embracing the changes that come with age, rather than fighting against them, can lead to a more fulfilling and beautiful experience. Take good care of yourself.
  • Focus on What We Can Control: Engaging in healthy habits, like staying active and practicing self-care, can contribute to both physical and mental well-being, which are often associated with beauty. We can carry our emotions on our face.

Appreciating beauty of one another is only one aspect of beauty. Nature changes as we do and can become more beautiful over time as well. We grow to appreciate the natural world more as we age, and spending time outside can enhance our happiness and well-being. It's a matter of perspective.

One good thing that came out of the COVID lockdown was that a lot of older adults took to the great outdoors. Everyone was walking. It was a healthy way to stay connected to nature and each other. Parks were booming with people. It was a new way to socialize even though we were physically distancing. The beauty of nature and all things around us became our focus. We discovered how much we needed it and always will.

Nature isn't just for the outdoors. It can be brought into the home to create a rustic environment. Tree limbs and bark can add a natural element to a room while plants and flowers create an indoor garden. Our homes can become part of nature, too.

Beauty is everywhere we look, and it takes many forms. As we age, I believe beauty becomes more of what we seek. We understand the rhythm and beauty of nature, and we learn from its evolution throughout the seasons. It truly is a natural healer. La natura e una delle migliori maniere per rimanere felice e sano con l eta. Nature is one of the best ways to stay happy and healthy as we age. Let's go outside!

Peace and Love,

Skylark

At 60 and Beyond, beauty has more meaning and is an important ingredient in our daily lives.

SKYLARK'S PICK OF THE WEEK

On Tuesday evening, we took a walk to the Fire Island Lighthouse. This walk never gets old, and you always discover something new. It's calming to take a walk on the wild side. Don't forget the binoculars.

SKYLARK'S  HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

It can take a while for summer to kick in, but the highlight of this week was spending time at the beach with my family this past weekend in Rockaway Beach. This is where my parents are from. The weather has finally evened out, and the days are warm, sunny, and long. We're in the thick of summertime. I love the feeling of this special season. It's a time to make new memories. Enjoy it. It goes fast.
