SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK
I love birds. I used to know how to identify birds native to the northeast. I grew up playing in the woods. We had bird cards in our classroom in seventh grade, and we had to learn all of them. I take bird walks now. I'm trying to relearn them.
I recently discovered the Blue Point Nature Preserve. This oasis in a Blue Point neighborhood is a respite that offers tranquility and beauty. It features hand-made birdhouses; each one uniquely positioned in the middle of a meadow. Many species of bird flock to them.
Here are some species that are regularly seen in gardens, parks, woodlands, and suburban areas across Long Island and the Northeast:
Tip for birdwatchers:
In Bay Shore and surrounding areas, you’ll most often see Northern Cardinals, Tufted Titmice, American Robins, and Eastern Bluebirds in urban and suburban spots, while Cedar Waxwings and Carolina Wrens are common in nearby woodlands. Seasonal migrants like the Ruby‑Crowned Kinglet and Yellow‑Bellied Sapsucker are worth watching in spring and fall.
Here are pictures of each of these birds in order:

Birds have played a key role in our lives for thousands of years. Walden, written by Henry David Thoreau and first published in 1854, chronicles his experiment in living simply and deliberately in a cabin he built near Walden Pond, Massachusetts, where he stayed for two years, two months, and two days. The book combines personal narrative, philosophical reflection, social critique, and detailed observations of nature, exploring themes of independence, minimalism, and the human relationship with the natural world. Birds play a key part in this.
There are many places to walk around Long Island to observe, reflect, and listen to bird calls. The Blue Point Nature Preserve is a special place. The meadows are filled with wildflowers in the Spring, and they attract all of the native birds that create a pleasant soundtrack to this splendid backdrop. You'll want to revisit this little piece of paradise more than once. Bella Uccelli.
Peace and Love,
Skylark
At 60 and Beyond, the sound of birds can bring us peace and harmony among the honking horns and sirens we hear in everyday life. Take a listen:

SKYLARK'S HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
The highlight of the week was meeting two special women on my walk around The Blue Point Nature Preserve. As I was entering, I was met by two ladies who were finishing their walk. I said hello and introduced myself and asked them if they thought it was safe to walk alone. They very firmly said, "I wouldn't. Would you like us to join you?" Barbara and Andrea joined me as we walked around a winding path along an overgrown, lush meadow. They told me it was a former nursery. We talked the entire time. They live nearby and were very familiar with this luscious property that was steps from their homes. I'm so glad I stopped them. You never know who you'll meet along a new path.

SKYLARK'S INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE OF THE WEEK

SKYLARK'S PRAYER OF THE WEEK

SKYLARK'S ITALIAN PHRASE OF THE WEEK
English: The sound of birds can soothe the soul.
Italian: Il suono degli uccelli può calmare l'anima.

SKYLARK'S ITALIAN INTERIOR DECORATING TIP OF THE WEEK
I believe in bringing nature into the home. In interior design, chinoiserie refers to a European decorative style that imitates Chinese and broader East Asian art, featuring motifs like pagodas, exotic birds, lacquered furniture, and blue‑and‑white porcelain, widely used from the 17th to 19th centuries. It truly is an exotic way to bring nature into your home. Go ahead. Get wild.

SKYLARK'S SONG OF THE WEEK - Bluebird by Paul McCartney and Wings
Lyrics
Late at night when the wind is still
I'll come flying through your door
And you'll know what love is for
I'm a bluebird
I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Touch your lips with a magic kiss
And you'll be a bluebird too
And you'll know what love can do
I'm a bluebird
I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Bluebird (bluebird), uh-huh
Bluebird (bluebird), uh-huh
Bluebird (bluebird), ah-ah-ah
Fly away through the midnight air
As we head across the sea
And at last, we will be free
You're a bluebird
You're a bluebird, you're a bluebird, you're a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah
You're a bluebird, you're a bluebird, you're a bluebird
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Bluebird (bluebird), uh-huh
Bluebird (bluebird), uh-huh
Bluebird (bluebird), ah-ah-ah
At last, we will be free
Bluebird, you and me
At last, we will be free
Bluebird (bluebird), uh-huh
Bluebird (bluebird), uh-huh
Bluebird (bluebird), ah-ah-ah
All alone on a desert island
We're living in the trees
And we're flying in the breeze
We're the bluebirds
We're the bluebirds, we're the bluebirds, we're the bluebirds
Singing bluebird (bluebird, bluebird), uh-huh
Bluebird (bluebird, bluebird), uh-huh
Bluebird (bluebird, bluebird), ah-ah-ah

MY BRAND - SKYLARK LIVE
I created my brand, Skylark Live, when I turned 60 years old and noticed a profound shift in this age. I wanted to talk about it and share what I was experiencing with the hope of helping other women as well. My brand consists of a weekly newsletter and a monthly vlog designed to motivate and inspire women over 60 to thrive in mature ageing through knowledge and self-awareness. I am open to conducting in-person conversations called The Skylark Sessions. These can be held in someone’s home or at a local library or senior center. To be continued.
Skylark Live Weekly Newsletter - My weekly newsletter, 60 and Beyond with Skylark - Living Life Inside and Outside the Home, features articles about human interest, nature, general observations, inspiration, goals, motivation, places I've been to, and ideas I want to explore. I'm open to ideas of what to write about, so let me know. I represent Bay Shore and towns beyond. There is also a calendar of events. I throw in Italian words, too, because I love the language and all things Italian. Bella Italia! As a paid subscriber, you will receive my newsletter each week in your email. That gives you a head's up. You can also advertise your business or event on my newsletter. Just click this link to subscribe: For updates, subscribe to our free newsletter!
