SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK
We took a ride to Robert Moses Field 5 Tuesday afternoon. The air was mild. I had to see the ocean after the nor'easter that battered our shoreline. I was surprised to see how good the beach looked. There was a tidal pool that we walked through. The water was warm. The sand washed away to form a large sandbar that stood about a foot high. It was good to see the beach had survived.
I feel like it was just summer. In a few short weeks, the light changes and sun sets earlier. I always resist the change from summer to fall. The nor'easter reminded me that no matter how I feel, the seasons must change. La-dee-da, 'Tis Autumn.
Even nature has resistance with the change of seasons. It seems as though it doesn't want to let go of summer either while preparing for the next season. A nor'easter will show you that. It takes a while, but I'm getting ready for fall. I bought more candles, and I cut some fading hydrangeas for my table. They always have such beautiful colors as fall begins.
Embracing the current season can bring such a positive energy to our lives. It's a good time to check in with our self and decide what we want to take with us into the next season and what we want to leave behind. Change is constant. That's what makes life so interesting. When we resist change, we can get stuck. Yuck. That's not a good place to be.
In this new season of autumn, try to open up your mind a bit to allow something new to find its way into your life. There's always more to discover, learn, embrace, and fall in love with. Autumn is a good time to make an about face.
If the beaches can survive the turbulence of life, then so can we. La-dee-da, 'Tis autumn.

My pick of the week is the Brightwaters & Beyond Film Festival. It got cancelled last weekend due to the storm. Lights, Camera, Action takes place this Saturday, October 3 at 5:00pm. It's free!
Brightwaters & Beyond is a short film festival that began in 2025 at Wohseepee Park in Brightwaters, New York. The first event brought together friends, family, and filmmakers to share their stories on screen. What started as a single night of local film and laughter has grown into a community rooted in creativity, connection, and the love of cinema. Let the show begin!

SKYLARK'S HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
The highlight of the week is that the nor'easter is over, and we are recovering. One person was killed, but the fatality occurred in Brooklyn, not on Long Island. The victim was Leighton Brown, a 56‑year‑old New York City Housing Authority employee, who was struck and killed by a falling tree in East New York, Brooklyn, on Saturday afternoon. Let us pray for his family.
No fatalities have been reported on Long Island itself from this storm. While the nor’easter brought winds over 50 mph, coastal flooding, and significant power outages across Long Island, including Suffolk and Nassau counties, the storm’s most severe impacts on Long Island included flooding in waterfront neighborhoods and coastal towns.
