SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK - CHANGE

You know when you're ready for change. Your mind, body, and soul tell you. Don't ignore these feelings. Take steps as soon as you can, because if you don't, the desire for change will nag at you until you do something about it. It can cause anxiety if you put it off. E' Buono. Change is good.

Change is good. We've heard this our whole life. Change is replacing something with something else, something better, something newer. A fresh start perhaps. Change comes in many forms. It can be a new job, a new relationship, a new home, a new car, or a new perspective. You may be asking yourself lately, what's next?

Change is inevitable, and sometimes, it's necessary. It's the one constant we can count on. Everything changes. The seasons, the weather, the night sky, and everything around us. There is a constant forward motion in life, so we must ride it as best we can. There's no escaping the constant flow of change.

Throughout our lives, we experience a lot of change. When we resist it, change can be painful, but if we embrace it, change can surprise us with newness and clarity. We go through many phases throughout the course of our life span. I have learned that change can come at any age and any stage of our life. Don't get too comfortable. Change will come knocking.

As many of you know, I went back to college in 2020. We were in the thick of lockdown. I was 62 years old. I had a lot of credits under my belt and transferred them to Farmingdale State College where I also work. I was ready to finally go back to school to get my Bachelor's Degree. It was a big item on my to-do list, and I knew one day, I would do it. I'm not afraid of change. And you shouldn't be either.

Here are some things change can help you with:

  • Growth: Change can help you grow by pushing you out of your comfort zone and learning from new experiences. This can help you understand yourself better, including your limits, desires, and passions. As we learn more about ourselves, we can make better decisions about our future and find our true calling.
  • Skills: Change can provide opportunities to develop new skills and improve existing ones.
  • Flexibility: Change can help us relax our routines and become more flexible.
  • Confidence: Change can help us challenge ourselves and boost our confidence.
  • Compassion: Change can help us view things from different perspectives, which can make us more compassionate and empathetic.

Here are some ways to embrace change in a positive way:

  • Acknowledge the change
  • Look at the situation optimistically
  • Analyze your values instead of your fears
  • Share your thoughts with others
  • Be flexible
  • Expect change
  • Build upon past experiences
  • Resist fear
  • Adopt an attitude of anticipation and excitement
  • See change as an opportunity

Change is also good for your mental health. It is necessary to improve and thrive. We can't stand still. I often talk about thriving into older age. We don't want to become complacent. That can be dangerous to our overall health. Change is how we adapt to our surroundings and grow personally and professionally. It’s not always easy to accept change, but it’s essential if we want to see positive results. Changing our personal habits can be challenging, but it can be healthy to continue striving for improvement in every area of our life.

Even small changes in our daily routine can lead to significant results. If we increase our productivity, we will have more time to focus on the important things in our lives. Small changes like prioritizing our to-do list, planning our day in advance, and eliminating distractions can greatly impact our success. When we embrace changes, we open ourselves up to new opportunities to improve ourselves. We can also learn new skills that help you advance in our field of work and play. If you’re unhappy with any aspect of your life, you must make a change. E' Buono. Change is good.

Peace and Love,

Skylark

At 60 and Beyond, change may not be as easy as it used to be, but it's just as essential for overall well-being. Don't forget to check my calendar for upcoming events!

ABOUT MY BRAND, SKYLARK LIVE

My Brand - Skylark Live was born out of my turning 60 and noticing a profound shift in this age. I wanted to talk about it and share what I was experiencing with the hope of helping other women as well. My brand consists of a weekly newsletter and a monthly vlog designed to motivate and inspire women over 60 to thrive in older age through knowledge and self-awareness.
