SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK - RESILIENCE
Resilience (resilienza in Italian) is the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties or bad situations. It requires grit and toughness. We all have it inside of us. Lo abbiamo tutti dentro di noi.
So, what does it mean to be resilient? We've all experienced challenging times in our lives that we thought we'd never make it through. Perhaps someone you love has passed away recently, or you got a bad health diagnosis. Maybe you're faced with the day-to-day task of helping someone who is ill or homebound. These life situations can feel overwhelming at times, but somehow, we keep going. We make it through. We really are resilient beings.
A bad situation that comes to mind is COVID-19. We endured a crisis that we're most likely not going to see again in our lifetime. At least I hope not. I've heard COVID also referred to as Rona, The Big C, and Vid. It amazes me that as we endure some of the most harrowing events, we can still have a sense of humor. We can look darkness right in the eye and make fun of it. That's the power of resilience.
Resilience is actually something we practice every day whether we know it or not. We may have a tough day at work and then come home to a broken pipe in our bathroom. Water is everywhere. This is the last thing you want to face at the end of a long day. So, you clean it up, call a plumber and then go make dinner. That's resilience in its simplest form and how we use it in a moment's notice.
There are different types of resilience. There is emotional resilience in which a person can tap into realistic optimism even when dealing with a crisis. Physical resilience refers to the body’s ability to adapt to challenges and recover quickly. Community resilience refers to the ability of groups of people to respond to and recover from adverse situations, such as natural disasters, acts of violence, or economic hardship. See, resilience is necessary in our daily lives.
Resilience is important because it's needed to process and overcome hardship. Those lacking resilience get easily overwhelmed, and may turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Resilient people tap into their strengths and support systems to overcome challenges and work through problems. Your resilience can grow stronger. When faced with something that appears very difficult, work through it. Don't give up. Don't throw in the towel. Pick yourself up and get resilient. Andiamo! Adesso! Let's go! Now!
Peace and Love,
Skylark
At 60 and Beyond, being resilient can help us age well by not letting things overwhelm us. We need less stress at this age, and resilience can help minimize stress.

SKYLARK'S SONG OF THE WEEK - LET'S CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF by FRED ASTAIRE featuring GINGER ROGERS
LYRICS
Things have come to a pretty pass
Our romance is growing flat
For you like this and the other
While I go for this and that
Goodness knows what the end will be
Oh, I don't know where I'm at
It looks as if we two will never be one
Something must be done…
You say either, I say either
You say neither and I say neither
Either, either, neither, neither
Let's call the whole thing off, yes…
You like potato and I like potato
You like tomato and I like tomato
Potato, potahto, tomato, tomahto
Let's call the whole thing off…
But oh, if we call the whole thing off
Then we must part
And oh, if we ever part
So if you like pyjamas and I like pyjahmas
I'll wear pyjamas and give up pyajahmas
For we know, we need each other
So we better call the calling off, off Oh, let's call the whole thing off, yes…
You say laughter and I say larfter
You say after and I say arfter
Laughter, larfter, after, arfter
Let's call the whole thing off
You like vanilla and I like vanella
You saspiralla and I saspirella
Vanilla, vanella, chocolate, strawberry
Let's call the whole thing off…
But oh, if we call the whole thing off
Then we must part
And, oh, if we ever part
Then that might break my heart…
So if you go for oysters and I go for ersters
I'll order oysters and cancel the ersters
For we know, we need each other
So we better call the calling off, off
Let's call the whole thing off…
Yes, you say either and you say either
You say neither and you say neither
Either, either, a-neither, a-neither
Let's call the whole thing off, oh, yes
You like potato and you like potahto
You like tomato and you like tomahto
Potato, potahto, tomato, tomahto
Let's call the whole thing off…
But oh, if we call the whole thing off
Then we must part
And oh, if we ever part
Then that might break my heart…
So if you like pyjamas (I like pyjahmas)
I'll wear pyjamas (you got pyjamas)
For we know, we need each other
So we better call the calling off, off
Let's call the whole thing off
Let's call the whole thing off (yes)
