Just as the seasons change, so do we. If you're over 60, change may not come so easy. We get stuck in our ways and it's hard to leave our comfort zone. But change is the only thing that's constant, so we have to learn how to go with the flow at any age. There are many things that you can do to help you embrace change, but I think the most important one is trust. Have faith and be confident in yourself and trust that what is about to happen is in your best interest.
When we are young, we don't think about change because we are eager for it. We graduate high school, go to college or get a job, get our own apartment or get married and start a family. Some of us move to a big city or to another state. You have to trust yourself to do that.
When I left Long Island for New York City after graduating college, I didn't give it much thought. It's what I wanted, and I couldn't wait to leave the suburbs for the concrete jungle. It may as well have been another planet. It was nothing like the beach life I grew up with in Bay Shore. My parents were from Rockaway Beach and Manhattan was their playground. Growing up, we'd often take trips to the city. I remember coming up over the last leg of the expressway that led into the Midtown Tunnel and seeing the skyline that looked like Oz. I always knew that I wanted to live and work there someday, and nothing was going to stop me. I had complete trust.
After 35 years of the hustle and bustle of Gotham, it was time to move back to Long Island. Again, I didn't give it much thought. I was ready for a change, and I trusted that it was the right time for me to return home. That's what we have to do. We have to trust that there will be something better for us because there usually is. Change is inevitable no matter how old we are. Just trust yourself and go with the flow.
Peace and Love,
