The Power of Love Part Deux

I'm writing about Love again because it's my favorite word and my favorite emotion. Yes, love is an emotion. According to the Bible, love is both an action and an emotion. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." But we need to go one step further and affirm that love is also an emotion. Affections are part of the essence of love. These emotions might not always be intense, but they are always there to some extent.

So, what happens when we lose a loved one? Sometimes we are relieved because that person may have suffered a debilitating illness for a long time, and we don't want to see them endure any more agony and pain. And sometimes we are devastated when it's a sudden death. The feelings of love can be so strong that we simply can't accept that the life force could possibly end. But we know that all living things have only so much time on this earth. The trees, the flowers, the birds, and the bees all have a life span. But somehow life keeps going, and we carry on. The seasons bring life, death, and renewal, and we can learn from them. All living creatures have a built-in survival instinct that we can call upon to endure as we must.

I would never tell someone who lost a loved one, "Get over it, you'll be fine. It's time to move on." Sometimes moving on is not an option but carrying on can be. And sometimes the best response is no response. Just letting someone know that you are there for them is enough of a response. The world needs more love, and we need to express it not only as an emotion, but as an action. It's just four little letters that make up one big, all-encompassing word. So, the next time you're with a loved one, tell them how much you love them until it becomes a natural response. I love you.

Peace and Love,
