Stepping Out at Dusk

Image

The weather will begin to warm up a bit over the next few weeks, and it could be a good time to start stepping out for evening walks. Dusk is a magical time of the day to stroll through your neighborhood or a nearby park. The energy shifts, and life gets a little quieter just after sunset. It's around this time that there's less traffic, and a mood of serenity sets in.

Walking is one of the best things we can do as older adults to channel our thoughts, clear our mind, and even lose some weight. It's the perfect way to get fit, and it doesn't require much effort. The cardiovascular benefits of walking are biologically plausible; like other forms of regular moderate exercise, walking improves cardiac risk factors such as cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, vascular stiffness and inflammation. Walking is a great mood booster, too.

So, get those walking shoes ready. If you're like me, you'll be spending lots of time at the beach this summer, and it will be here before you know it. If you start now, maybe you can still fit into last year's bathing suit and walk along the beach feeling and looking fantastic. Let's go!

Peace and Love,

Skylark
