We're Having a Snowstorm in Bay Shore

Image

The snow has begun to fall as I write this article. I'm sitting in front of my bay window looking out at the cars that are already covered in snow with their windshield wipers sticking straight up. I think it's going to be a long night. I hope you have plenty of food, warm blankets, candles, and yes, alcohol. I made sure to stock up on some of my favorite Chianti.

I ran into a guy in the liquor store Friday afternoon who had a small bottle of rum tucked under his arm as we waited in line to pay. He asked me if I had milk, bread, and eggs. I said, "Yes I do. And you?" And then I leaned in and said, "I see you've got the good stuff." He laughed, gave me a wink, and said, "Enjoy the snow." It's spontaneous moments like this that make us feel warm inside. As evening started to set in, the air began to fill with anticipation as the news reports continued to update the impending snowstorm. Spirits can be a good thing to have for a stormy weekend.

There's an exhilaration that comes with a major event like this as it creates a feeling of oneness. It feels good when we are home and off the roads that have become too slick to drive on. The last big snowstorm I recall occurring on Long Island was in 2013 just months after I moved back to Bay Shore from Brooklyn. That February, we were slammed with more than a foot of snow, as you can see from the picture of me knee deep. It took two days to dig out.

I'm starting to hear snowplows in the distance. That's a comforting sound. Goditi la neve, which means enjoy the snow, in Italian, of course. Ciao!

Love and Peace,
