Morning Moon over Bay Shore

Morning. I love to wake before the sun. As I looked out my window Sunday morning, the Moon was straight overhead. On this day, the Waning Gibbous phase is between half-moon and full moon. Waning means it is getting smaller, or dimmer. The moon displays eight phases, one after the other, as it moves through its cycle each month. It takes 27 days for the Moon to orbit Earth. That means the Moon's cycle is 27 days long. The phases begin at the Full Moon, then go to the Waning Gibbous (getting dimmer), the Half Moon, the Waning Crescent (getting more dim), the New Moon (completely dim), the Waxing Crescent (getting brighter), the Half Moon, and the Waxing Gibbous (coming into a Full Moon again).

If we pay attention to the 27-day cycle of the Moon and use it as our guide, think about what we can accomplish in this timeframe. We're still at the beginning of a new year, and I always think it's a great time to reinvent ourselves by setting new goals. Before this, I've never thought about goal setting within the phases of the Moon, but it makes sense. What is your goal for this year? Is it losing weight? Going back to school? Writing a novel? These may seem like lofty ideas, but they are doable. It requires determination, sacrifice, and commitment. I'm big on goal setting, so let's begin it together.

The next Full Moon is the Snow Moon and appears in all its glory on February 16th. Let's prepare for a goal to begin on that date. That gives us about three weeks to think about what we want to accomplish this year and envision ourselves doing it. If we can see it, we can do it. My goal is to lose weight and exercise more. Summer will be here before you know it, so let's go!!!

Peace and Love,
