Happy New Year!
Civilizations around the world have been celebrating the start of each new year for at least four millennia. Today, most New Year’s festivities begin on December 31, New Year's Eve, the last day of the Gregorian calendar, and continue into the early hours of January 1 on New Year's Day. Common traditions include attending parties, eating special New Year’s foods, making resolutions for the new year, watching fireworks displays, and lighting candles.
Bay Shore has been celebrating “lighting the night” before Christmas, but this year the Bay Shore Beautification Society has decided to use the tradition to ring in the New Year. On New Year’s Eve at 5 p.m., the community will light their luminaries. (Rain date of Jan. 1, 2022 at 5 p.m.) Luminary kits are $10 each and contain 12 luminaries. Kits can be bought at the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library, Brightwaters Village Hall, Brightwaters Deli, Drew Patrick Spa, Amanda’s Bakery, Willy Nilly, Dulce de Leche, Variety Florist and Brightwaters Hardware. All proceeds will be used to enhance the beautification of the community. For more information visit www.bayshorebeautificationsociety.com. If you aren't able to purchase your luminary kit, lighting candles will suffice.
We've been through a lot in 2021 and here's hoping your new year will be everything you dream it to be. Light the Night! Happy New Year!
When the bells all ring
and the horns all blow
And the couples we know
are fondly kissing.
Will I be with you or will
I be among the missing?
Maybe it’s much
too early in the game
Ooh, but I thought
I’d ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year’s
New Year’s eve?
Wonder whose arms
will hold you good and tight
When it’s exactly
twelve o’clock that night
Welcoming in the New Year
New Year’s eve
Maybe I’m crazy to suppose
I’d ever be the one you chose
Out of a thousand invitations
You received
Ooh, but in case I
stand one little chance
Here comes the jackpot
question in advance:
What are you doing New Year’s
New Year’s Eve?
