A New Year, A New Path

As 2022 is just a few days away, this could be a good time to think about what the new year means to you and what new path you want to be on. Each first Monday-of-the-month, I feature a new subject on my Vlog, 60 and Beyond with Skylark, that I record and upload to my YouTube Channel, Skylark Live. It is meant to inspire and motivate my readers, 60 and beyond. But just about all of us mark the new year with a shift in ourselves. So, what does that look like from your perspective?

Looking back on the last two years or so, most of us can say that this period was filled with love, joy, pain, loss, longing, sorrow, and so many other emotions that are hard to put into words. Since I write from the heart, let me share some of things I’ve been thinking about. 2020 was like no other year. By now, we all know someone that lost their life to COVID-19, and from where we stand today, 2021 hasn’t looked a whole lot better. Maybe you've even had COVID. Sure, we have a vaccine and a booster, but can we count on them to keep this virus as bay? Most of us live with an uncertainty that can change on any given day. How are you coping with it? What have you done to help yourself get through this unprecedented time in your life? By all accounts, the outside world has an effect on us, but only you know to what degree from your point of view. Depending on where you are emotionally, spiritually, or otherwise depends on how these past twenty-four months have changed you, impacted you, stressed you, or inspired and motivated you.

When I was ready to leave Brooklyn in 2012, where I had lived for more than 25 years, I did not hesitate to make that change and move back to my hometown of Bay Shore. It feels the same way now. I know I’m ready for a new path and the new year is the beginning for me. What is your new path? Do you know? If you do, now can be a great time to take the first step. That first step will lead to many other steps and before you know it, you will be on a new path. A lot of us hesitate to make change because, let’s face it, we like our comfort zone. But when that nagging feeling comes over us, we can’t deny it. A new year is a great starting point to take a leap of faith into the unknown and before long, it will become our new comfort zone. So go ahead, take that first step. After all, we move forward, not backward. As a wise man once said to me, keep going, stay positive, good things happen. So, let's go into 2022! Happy New Year!

Peace and Love,

Skylark
