I apologize for not writing an article last week. I'm embracing newfound freedom. The very best part of retirement is not thinking about what time you should go to bed and what time to set your alarm clock for. It's a newfound freedom and the best feeling you can imagine.
Freedom. Funny, but today, I saw the word twice. Once on a wall of a building and once on a flag flying outside someone's home. I took it as a sign. I sign that I made the right decision. Someone recently asked me if it was too soon. No. It was right on time, I replied. Giusto in tempo.

We've all heard people say, you'll know it when you feel it. That is so very true. For me, I just couldn't work anymore. It felt like I was dragging myself by my own collar. I had a good routine that worked. Until it didn't. I must admit, I am proud of myself for the commitment to the last 10 years of getting up each morning, bathing, getting dressed, and getting on the road. It was like clockwork. But the roads have become too dangerous in the past few years, and I really wanted to get off them. They say the more you drive, the more at risk you are of having an accident. I never want to hear that sound.
So, what do you do when you retire? I'm busier than I thought I'd be. It's almost a month already, and I have a to do list each day. I like to be busy. I can't be still. I'm able to spend more time with my family and friends and tend to my garden more. My garden makes me very, very happy. But you already know that. I recently planted two new flowering plants. They're purple. And my Rose of Sharon are blooming. They get more beautiful each year. That's the thing about a garden. It takes time to bear fruit. It teaches us patience and being in the moment. It helps us to understand nature more and how it has perfect timing. That's the beauty of retirement. It comes at the right time.
