SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK - LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!
The acting world has been hit hard recently. We've lost some icons. They made out world a better place through their gift of acting.
On September 1, Graham Green passed away. He was in so many films, but perhaps his most famous character was Kicking Bird in Dances with Wolves. This role earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
On September 16, we lost the iconic, Robert Redford. The Sundance Kid. Hubbell Gardiner. These are the two characters that resonate in our collective psyche. They feel like old friends.
Redford was a private man. He didn't like the spotlight. He spent most of his life living in Utah and created the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival that have become staples in the cinematic world. Alarmingly handsome, he didn't think so. But we did. From the first time we set eyes on him in his legendary role in Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, to his aloof charm in The Way We Were, we fell in love with this charismatic man. There will never be another one like him. Thank you for giving us so much while remaining so humble, Hubbell.
On September 25, we lost Italian bombshell, Claudi Cardinale. She came on the American movie scene in the film, Goha, released in 1958. This role marked her debut in feature films and led to her becoming one of the most prominent actresses in Italy and beyond. She was part of the Italian invasion in cinema and launched a style that every woman wanted to duplicate. There was only one Claudia Cardinale. Viva Italia!
And then on October 11, we lost the darling Diane Keaton. Annie Hall. That role earned her an Oscar. This character launched a style that she made her own and carried it through most of her adult life. From big hats to large belts, Diane Keaton was Annie Hall. Often imitated but never duplicated, she stood out as a fashionista in her hand-picked style.
My favorite role of hers was in the movie, Something's Got to Give. I saw it one Christmas afternoon with my dad, sister, and brother. That was a memorable day together. We all loved watching her alongside Jack Nicholson as the author, Erica Barry. Co-starring Keanu Reeves, Amanda Peet, and Frances McDormand, Somethings Got to Give gave us so much.
Sometimes, film characters become permanent in our memory. We think about them and the films they were in. Their characters and stories shape our lives. I can still remember going to the Bay Shore Movie Theatre on Montauk Highway and walking down the red carpet to my seat to watch Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. I was 15 years old. It made such an impression on me, and I fell in love with American History that day. Thanks for the memories.
Peace and Love,
Skylark
At 60 and Beyond, watching a movie that we loved again and again can bring back our favorite memories that endure.

SKYLARK'S HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
The highlight of the week was getting to sleep in on a stormy Sunday. It's times like these that I appreciate my home and feel grateful to be able to stay safe. I pray for those who don't have such good fortune.

SKYLARK'S INTERIOR DECORATING TIP OF THE WEEK
A gold color on a ceiling can be a great way to make a room feel cozy while at the same time, reflect light to make it glow. Go ahead. Give it a try.
SKYLARK'S SONG OF THE WEEK - THE WAY WE WERE
LYRICS
Memories
Light the corners of my mind
Misty watercolor memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then
Or has time rewritten every line
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we?
Could we?
Memories
May be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So, it's the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember
The way we were
The way we were
