Spring into Attraction

SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK - SPRING INTO ATTRACTION

When I was younger, I used to be attracted to the "bad boys." Who wasn't? For some reason, they were always the cutest guys who had a lot of sex appeal. I think by now, I've learned my lesson. I think. Are we in control of who's attracted to us? We do have some say in the matter.

While you might not have complete control over who you're attracted to, you do have agency over your actions and choices related to those attractions and who's attracted to you. Attraction is often driven by subconscious factors and biological urges...oh, yeah...making it difficult to consciously choose who you're drawn to. However, you can choose to engage with or avoid certain individuals, influence your social circles, and cultivate the kind of relationships you desire. It takes a lot of discipline, and we've all made mistakes. It's never too late though.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

1. Attraction is Often Subconscious:

  • Attraction can be a deeply ingrained response, influenced by unconscious patterns, past experiences, and even biological predispositions.
  • You may find yourself drawn to individuals who trigger specific emotions or reflect unresolved issues from your past.
  • This doesn't mean you're destined to only attract certain types of people, but rather that attraction is a complex process with biological and psychological roots, according to Psychology Today.

2. Actions and Choices Matter:

  • While you can't control who you're drawn to, you can choose to engage or disengage with those attractions.
  • You can actively cultivate relationships with individuals who align with your values and goals, even if they don't immediately spark the same level of physical attraction.
  • You can also choose to distance yourself from individuals who trigger negative patterns or behaviors.
  • By making conscious choices about your social circles and the types of interactions you seek, you can influence the kinds of connections that form in your life.

3. Building Healthy Relationships:

  • You can work on building strong, healthy relationships with individuals you choose to engage with, even if the initial attraction was not strong.
  • This involves actively nurturing communication, building trust, and practicing mutual respect and understanding.
  • While the initial spark of attraction may be powerful, the lasting quality of a relationship depends on the conscious choices and efforts of both individuals.

While attraction may have a subconscious element, your actions and choices play a significant role in shaping the types of relationships you build and maintain. Physical attraction can be so powerful that it renders us helpless to avoid even when we know a particular person may not be good for us. As we get older, we know the types of people who are better for good relationships that can enrich our lives, but even with this, it takes self-control at any age to create healthy boundaries that can contribute to healthy relations. Cupid is always at work. Beware.

Peace and Love,

Skylark

At 60 and Beyond, it's never too late for love. We just need to be more careful who we invite into our intimate life. The beginning is so powerful, but even the brightest flame can fade. Proceed with caution.

SKYLARK'S PICK OF THE WEEK - BAYARD CUTTING ARBORETUM

The Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River is an oasis that is filled with stone walkways and wild flowers. It is a respite from the busy world. A place for everyone.

This past Sunday, I took a walk with a friend through the winding paths that run along small ponds that lead to nowhere. Along the way, you can see a variety of flowers growing from garden beds surrounded by rocks that someone hand crafted with precise detail. This is a special place that you'll want to get lost in. From trees of every size and variety to daffodils and flowering bushes, you'll be mesmerized to witness the beauty of this place. Mother nature's world is spectacular and colorful. Take some time to visit the arboretum this Spring. You will be transformed by it.

SKYLARK'S HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

The highlight of the week is seeing all the trees and flowers blooming. You don't realize how many cherry trees there are until the month of April when they pop and their beautiful, delicate flowers appear. The vivid colors of the flowers are exquisite. They only last for a short while, so be sure not to miss them. This is the highlight of the week for me.

LYRICS

Oh-ho, yeah, oh-ho, yeah, oh-ho, yeah

In the springtime
You can see nature full and free
High up in the trees
You can hear the birds them singing songs of freedom

Out in the open
Everything there is fresh and clean
Unlike the life I'm here living
All creatures great and small
Living together one and all

I wanna be
The way I wanna be
That is the way I wanna be
Like the birds in the tree, yeah
They're goin'

Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet

Singing songs of freedom
Singing songs of freedom

Living in the city
No chains around my feet
But still I am not free
No handcuffs on my hand
But I've got my dignity

I wanna be
The way I wanna be
That is the way I wanna be
Like the birds in the tree, yeah
They're goin'

Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet

Singing songs of freedom
Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Singing songs of freedom
Tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
See as a youth living in the city
Can't get no work, can't get no job
Can't get no money to put in my pocket
I can't get a thing to have of my own

That's why I wanna be free
That's why I wanna be free
Like the bird in the tree
Like the bird in the tree
They're goin'

Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
Tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet

Singing songs of freedom
Singing songs of freedom

Yes in the springtime
You can feel nature full and free
High up in the trees
You can hear the birds them singing songs of freedom

Out in the open
Everything there is fresh and clean
Unlike the life I'm here living
All creatures great and small
Living together one and all

I wanna be
The way I wanna be
Just like the birds in the trees
They're goin'

Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
They're goin', tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
I said they're goin', tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
I said they're goin', tr-ra-ra-ra-tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet
