A Supernatural Experience

SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK - A SUPERNATURAL EXPERIENCE

A supernatural experience is one that is perceived to be beyond the realm of natural or scientific explanation, often attributed to supernatural forces or entities. These experiences are subjective and can vary greatly, ranging from unusual sensory perceptions to claims of interacting with spirits or other beings.

The term, supernatural, is attributed to non-physical entities, such as angels, demons, gods and spirits. It also includes claimed abilities embodied in or provided by such beings, including magic, telekinesis, levitation, precognition and extrasensory perception.

There is no definitive scientific evidence to prove or disprove the reality of paranormal experiences. While many people report having had paranormal experiences, there are also scientific and psychological explanations for these experiences that do not require supernatural intervention. Here's a more detailed look:

Scientific and Psychological Explanations:

  • Sleep Paralysis: This can lead to hallucinations and the feeling of an unseen presence in the room.
  • Misinterpretations of Natural Phenomena: Infrasound, low-frequency electromagnetic fields, or even the perception of shadows can lead to experiences that are mistaken for paranormal activity.
  • Psychological Factors: Prior beliefs, emotional state, and suggestibility can all play a role in shaping a person's perception of paranormal experiences.
  • Misunderstandings of Technology: Some paranormal investigators use technology like electromagnetic field (EMF) detectors, but the readings they get can be explained by natural causes like electrical currents or static electricity, according to a YouTube video.

The Skeptical View:

  • Many scientists and skeptics argue that paranormal phenomena can be explained by natural phenomena, or are simply the result of misinterpretation, misunderstanding, or anomalous variations of normal events.
  • The scientific method relies on verifiable evidence, and paranormal phenomena often lack the necessary reproducibility and testability for scientific investigation, according to a Reddit post.

The Believer's Perspective:

  • Many people, including those who have had paranormal experiences, attribute them to the supernatural.
  • Some believe that the paranormal is a real, albeit unexplainable, aspect of the universe.

In Conclusion:

Whether or not paranormal experiences are real is a matter of personal belief. While there's no scientific evidence to support the existence of ghosts, spirits, or other supernatural entities, there are also no scientific explanations for all the reported paranormal experiences. The explanations provided by science and psychology offer potential explanations for many of these experiences, but they do not address the core question of whether the paranormal is a genuine aspect of reality.

I have had three supernatural experiences. My first one was when I was in my early 20's and suffering with a major depression. I was under the care of an excellent doctor, and my mother was extremely comforting to me. I was having a particularly bad night one evening when suddenly, I shot up in bed and yelled out, "You're here." I knew immediately that it was Jesus Christ sitting at the end of my bed. No, I didn't see him, but I felt his strong presence. That experience changed my life and solidified my faith in what Christianity teaches us.

My second supernatural experience was in the subway. I was waiting on the platform at the West 4th subway station when I was compelled to look to my right. I saw a black man at the far end of the platform walking towards me. I couldn't make out his face, but he was familiar to me. When he got to me, the train pulled in, and we boarded together. I said to him, "what do we do now?" He replied, "I don't know." We pulled into the next stop, and he got off. We didn't say goodbye. I stayed on the train. We never saw each other again. As the train pulled out, it was clear to me that we knew each other from another time and place, but I had no recollection of where or when. I went home.

My most recent supernatural experience was with a table in my bedroom. One night, I was getting into bed when I noticed that the glass table that I have books on was leaning to one side. I looked at the legs to see that two of them were bent and were curled up. These were wrought iron legs so nothing could have bent them other than extreme heat as in a welding torch. I was immediately aghast. I thought to myself how could this happen? I took everything off the table and leaned it against my big armour. I decided to keep it for a couple of days just to see if anything other strange events might occur. Sure enough, a couple of days later, I was vacuuming my bedroom and something made me turn my head and look at the table. To my horror, the curled legs were now straight and uncurled. This was impossible, I thought! That was it. I threw the table away. My Uncle had passed away a few weeks earlier. We were very close. I assumed it was him visiting. He loved tinkering with things. I have his picture on my nightstand.

Phenomenons such as these can't always be explained. They can be unsettling or bring us comfort depending on what they are. But they are real. Believe it or not.

Peace and Love,

Skylark

At 60 and Beyond, we can experience things that are unexplainable. By this age, we have a better understanding of the mysteries of life.

SKYLARK'S PICK OF THE WEEK

My pick of the week is the monthly Box of Chocolates event that takes place at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Suffolk County in Bay Shore. This Saturday on April 19 will feature Claudia Jacobs & Band.

SKYLARK'S HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

My highlight of the week is that it's Holy Week. Holy Week is a significant period in the Christian church that is observed with special solemnity as a time of devotion to the Passion of Jesus Christ. It begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Holy Saturday followed by Easter. During this week, Christians commemorate the events up to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. Praise the Lord!

How do you celebrate Passover or Easter?

<!-- EMBEDDED YOUTUBE URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbGEuNi2SKs -->

LYRICS

What's the buzz?
Tell me what's a-happening. (Repeat 8 times)
JESUS
Why should you want to know?
Don't you mind about the future?
Don't you try to think ahead?
Save tomorrow for tomorrow;
Think about today instead.
APOSTLES

What's the buzz?
Tell me what's happening. (Repeat many times)
JESUS

I could give you facts and figures.
Even give you plans and forecasts.
Even tell you where I'm going.
APOSTLES
When do we ride into Jerusalem? (Repeat many times)
JESUS

Why should you want to know?
Why are you obsessed with fighting
Times and fates you can't defy?
If you knew the path we're riding,
You'd understand it less than I.
APOSTLES

What's the buzz?
Tell me what's happening. (Repeat many times)
MARY MAGDALENE

Let me try to cool down your face a bit. (Repeat 5 times)
JESUS

Mary that is good,
While you prattle through your supper,
Where and when and who and how.
She alone has tried to give me
What I need right here and now.
APOSTLES

What's the buzz?
Tell me what's happening. (Repeat many times)
