My New Vintage Boots

SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK - MY NEW VINTAGE BOOTS

I found them on Facebook Marketplace. My new vintage boots. They fit like a charm. I love boots. And vintage boots are the best. I love anything from the 70's and 80's. Kenneth Cole made my new boots. That's vintage.

Facebook Marketplace is a treasure trove. It could be addictive. Buyer beware. I'm new to this way of shopping. I've been looking for a desk. The boots popped up on my marketplace. I was not looking for them, but I had to have them. The price was just $35. I messengered the seller. Christine is her name, too. "I'm interested. What size are they?" "Size 10", she responded. Darn, I thought. They could be too big for me, but that didn't stop me. I had try them on.

This past Sunday was the day to see the boots. I got in my car and headed to The Bristol; an assisted living facility not too far from my home where I was to meet Christine. She was pressed for time, but she said she'd wait for me in the parking lot in her Jeep. As I headed out, I hit a major traffic snag. There was a St. Patrick's Day Parade in a neighboring town. The little intersecting streets were like a maze that I couldn't find my way out of. Traffic was diverted away from where I had to go. I texted her. She said she'd wait. I finally got to her in a harried rush and thanked her for waiting. She was calm. She handed me the boots, and I tried them on. I felt like Cinderella. I gave her the cash. We had a really good conversation about her mother who was going to a rehab. She was cleaning out her room at The Bristol where she spent the last few years. She poured her heart out to me and explained how difficult this was for her. I listened. The kindness of strangers is all we need sometimes. I'm glad my new vintage boots brought us together.

So, what is it about vintage shopping? It's a glimpse into the past. I think we all have a favorite piece of clothing. For me, it's always been boots and shoes. I usually buy them first and then my outfits are assembled around them. Boots have always defined an era. The 80's were a definitive era in boots. The thicker high heel heal was in style. They were easier to walk in. There's something about walking in a boot. They make you feel cool, hip, and in charge. They were made for walking. As the song says, "One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you."

Peace and Love,

Skylark

At 60 and Beyond, a good pair of vintage boots can be just what the doctor ordered.

SKYLARK'S PICK OF THE WEEK - FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE

My pick of the week is Facebook Marketplace. This is a great way to buy and sell stuff. It's also a great way to make extra money. And it's the perfect place to find that certain item you've been looking for that you can't find anywhere else.

SKYLARK'S INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE OF THE WEEK

SKYLARK'S HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK - TULIPS

The highlight of the week was seeing my tulips leaves pop through the soil in my garden. I planted the bulbs at the end of Autumn last year, so this will be the first year of bloom for them. I'm so excited. Now, I must have patience. That's a virtue.
