Spring and Other Things

SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK - SPRING AND OTHER THINGS

Soon, we will be seeing trees pop with color and other things bursting from our gardens. As Spring arrives this Thursday, it makes me think of the passage of time.

Technically, it's still winter, but the sky is so much brighter. I love the sunsets we've been having. The moon has been strutting her stuff, too. At dusk and dawn, the sky is so blue. Here's a picture I captured of Monday's sunset. The sky was bursting with color.

There's something about the change of the seasons. We change, too. There's a new perspective in a new season. We start to think about new goals and how we'll spend our time. Maybe we go shopping for new clothes or buy ourselves flowers.

I was at a used furniture warehouse recently and bought a new wicker chair. It was a steal at $20. I also bought a chartreuse vase. I've never seen a chartreuse vase. I had to have it. I bought tulips for it. They are multicolored. Simple things make me happy.

Spring is a season of renewal and personal growth. It's been a cold winter. We endured temperatures well below normal through most of January and February. Brrrr. Even though I'm born in winter, it's my least favorite season. Yes, it's beautiful, and I love the fresh fallen snow. But it's too cold for me. I like to wear lighter clothing. I wore open-toed shoes today.

The official first day of spring occurs this week in the Northern Hemisphere, known as the spring equinox, when both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres equally balance the light and dark of the encompassing 24 hours. Spring arrives on Thursday at 5:01 am. I usually set my clock early so I can be awake at the precise time of the arrival of Spring. I don't want to miss a thing.

Buona Primavera. Happy Spring!

Peace and Love,

Skylark

At 60 and Beyond, it makes you feel good to buy yourself some flowers. When my garden's in bloom, I cut wild ones.

SKYLARK'S PICK OF THE WEEK - CIMARRON 615 AT THE BOULTON CENTER

Former member of the band, Poco, will be performing at The Boulton Center this Saturday night, March 22, at 8:00pm. You’d be hard-pressed to find a band with a more impressive collective resume than Cimarron 615.

The quartet — just releasing its second, self-titled album — is a hall of fame-caliber assemblage, with credits that look like a who’s-who of Americana, country and rock history. “We’ve all been around a long time and done a lot of work — and a lot of it together,” notes drummer Rick Lonow. “There’s history here.”

Where the four musicians intersect is via the famed country-rock band Poco. Lonow and Jack Sundrud were its longtime rhythm section until the band ceased when co-founder Rusty Young died in 2021. Michael Webb played in the band for eight years, while Ronnie Guilbeau co-wrote Poco’s 1989 Top 20 single “Call It Love” with Lonow. Webb and Sundrud co-produced Poco’s All Fired Up album in 2013, and Lonow, Webb and Sundrud played on Young’s 2017 solo album, Waitin’ For the Sun. It should be a great night of music.

Visit www.boultoncenter.org for tickets and information.

SKYLARK'S SONG OF THE WEEK - IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SPRING by ASTRUD GILBERTO

LYRICS

I'm as restless as a willow in a windstorm
I'm as jumpy as a puppet on a string
I'd say that I had spring fever
But I know it isn't spring
I am starry-eyed and vaguely discontented
Like a nightingale without a song to sing
Oh, why should I have spring fever
When it isn't even spring?
I keep wishing I were somewhere else
Walking down a strange new street
Hearing words that I have never heard
From a girl I've yet to meet
I'm as busy as a spider spinning daydreams
I'm as giddy as a baby on a swing
I haven't seen a crocus or a rosebud or a robin on the wing
But I feel so gay in a melancholy way
That it might as well be spring
It might as well be spring
I'm as busy as a spider spinning daydreams
I'm as giddy as a baby on a swing
I haven't seen a crocus or a rosebud or a robin on the wing
But I feel so gay in a melancholy way
That it might as well be spring
Oh, it might as well be spring
