SKYLARK'S ARTICLE OF THE WEEK - HONORING A KING BY SERVING OTHERS WITH LOVE
One of the most important things to me is to be of service to others in need. Whether it's driving a friend to a doctor appointment or donating food at your local church, serving others is the best part of our humanity. We all get by with a little help from our friends.
I like Marianne Williamson. A lot. I follow her and have seen her speak live in New York City a couple of times. She wrote the book, A Return to Love, and she lectures on the book, A Course in Miracles, which I received as a birthday present from a dear friend. She is all about love, which I think is the most important emotion there is. Love is all we need.
Dr. King's message was not only about equality and justice, but about love for our fellow man.
Here is an excerpt from Marianne Williamson's newsletter this week that touched me. I wanted to share it with you:
"Some people think MLK Day should be a “day of service,” but that has never seemed enough to me. I think it should be a day of justice, of nonviolence, and of love. He was about radical change in the direction of a more just society. He was about refusing to be quiet about things that mattered most. He was about refusing to hate our enemies. He was about “injecting a new dimension of love into the veins of human civilization.”
Every day since Dr. King’s death, instead of feeling more at peace with it, I have become even sadder. Why? Because everything we were afraid might happen when he died, has happened. Dr. King kept dreams aloft that all of us could embrace, and when he died it felt like the dreams died with him.
MLK Day is a day to revive the dream. To re-embrace the principles. To recommit to justice. “The desegregation of the American South is the political externalization of the goal of the Civil Rights movement,” he said, “but the ultimate goal is the establishment of the beloved community.” He said we must have outer changes in our circumstances and internal shifts in our souls. Those ideas, and so many others he articulated, have guided my path both as a woman and as a candidate. Dr. King remains a light on the path of anyone who has ever hoped to help create a better world.
Today I gave a personal and political talk about Dr. King and his legacy. You can watch that talk here.
May our campaign shine even a fraction of the light into the world that Dr. King shone while he was here. What a blessing that we can continue to learn from the depth of his ideas and the courage of his life."
Marianne Williamson ran for President on the Democratic ticket back in 2020, and she plans to run again this year. She's ahead of her time. Love isn't a political point of view, but it should be. It's an essential part of the human condition and one we need to not only talk about but act on more often. Serving others and being of assistance whenever and wherever we can is a fundamental part of being human. It's a natural impulse. We must never forget Dr. King's message for all people everywhere.
Peace and Love,
Skylark

SKYLARK'S PICK OF THE WEEK - MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
One of the places dedicated to learning about Rev. King is the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park located in Atlanta. The park consists of places where Rev. King was born, where he lived and where he worshipped throughout his life. Therefore, the park consists of dozens of buildings, most of which were built between 1890 and 1920. More than half a million people a year visit the park.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King, are both buried next to Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. The King Center and tomb are located across Auburn Avenue from the National Park Service Visitor Center. The organization was created in 1968. The King Center was completed and dedicated on January 15, 1982.

SKYLARK'S SONGS OF THE WEEK - MY LOVE by PAUL MCCARTNEY
Lyrics
And when I go away
I know my heart can stay with my love
It's understood
It's in the hands of my love
And my love does it good
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa
My love does it good
And when the cupboard's bare
I'll still find something there with my love
It's understood
It's everywhere with my love
And my love does it good
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa
My love does it good
Whoa-whoa, I love, oh-whoa, my love
Only my love holds the other key to me
Oh-whoa, my love, oh-oh, my love
Only my love does it good to me
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa
My love does it good
Don't ever ask me why
I never say goodbye to my love
It's understood
It's everywhere with my love
And my love does it good
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa
My love does it good
Whoa-whoa, I love, oh-whoa, my love
Only my love does it good to me
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa
LISTEN TO WHAT THE MAN SAYS by PAUL MCCARTNEY
Lyrics
Alright, okay
Very good to see you down in New Orleans, man
Yeah here it is
Yeah, yeah
Any time, any day
You can hear the people say
That love is blind
Well, I don't know but I say love is kind
Soldier boy kisses girl
Leaves behind a tragic world
But he won't mind, he's in love
And he says love is fine
Oh yes, indeed we know
That people will find a way to go
No matter what the man said
And love is fine for all we know
For all we know, our love will grow
That's what the man said
So won't you listen to what the man said
He said
Ah, take it away
Oh yes, indeed we know
That people will find a way to go
No matter what the man said
And love is fine for all we know
For all we know, our love will grow
That's what the man said
So won't you listen to what the man said
He said
Oh yes, indeed we know
That people will find a way to go
No matter what the man said
And love is fine for all we know
For all we know, our love will grow
That's what the man said
So won't you listen to what the man said
He said
The wonder of it all, baby
The wonder of it all, baby
The wonder of it all, baby, yeah yeah yeah
