The Bay Shore Historical Society will meet on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Bay Shore - Brightwaters Public Library (1 South Country Rd., Brightwaters, NY)

Special Guest Speaker J D Solomon will present “When Nazis Went on Trial in Bay Shore”. In May 1938, over a thousand people clamored to enter the small courthouse in Bay Shore to witness the opening of a trial of American Nazis—leaders of the German American Bund. JD Solomon, a Bay Shore native and author of the award-winning novel Home News, will tell us the backstory of this trial, how it originated in Bay Shore, and how it set off a chain of events leading to the demise of the Bund.

JD grew up in Brightwaters and graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1974. He's the author of Home News, a historical novel set in Bay Shore in 1928. He's also the author of The Tinen Killings, a historical novel about Civil War veterans, and Overcoming Macular Degeneration, which he co-wrote with his father, Yale Solomon, a longtime ophthalmologist in Bay Shore. A retired editor, he gives presentations on historical true crime—like the one you're about to hear—to senior groups in Central New Jersey.

The meeting is open to the public at no charge. Refreshments will be served. Learn more at: https://www.bayshorehistoricalsociety.org/programs-news
